Essential Questions: 

  • How can understanding the organization of nonfiction texts be helpful?
  • How does the major section contribute to the whole?
  • What root words and/or affixes help determine the definition of vocabulary?
  • How do you determine if a claim is sound and relevant?
Monday
  1. Fable plot diagram and theme analysis
  2. Introduce plot diagram and terms with example and video (take notes in your composition book!)

3. Blog Set-up

Homework – create an original plot diagram picture (example: roller coaster, mountain, etc.) Due Friday!

Tuesday
  1. Fable plot diagram and theme analysis: Read The Boy Who Cried Wolf,           Create a Plot Diagram in your composition books                                              Write down what you think the theme is.  Be sure to support your answer.
  2. Read “The Golden Lie” in Scope with margin questions
  3. Create plot diagram for “The Golden Lie”
Wednesday
Theme Video:

  1. PSL: Diagram “The Bundle of Sticks” in your composition book and list the THEME.
  2. Watch video and provide THEME instruction.
  3. Finish plot diagram for “The Golden Lie”
  4. Begin “What’s the Theme” activity with partner
Thursday
  1. Fable : Read The Boasting Traveler, complete a plot diagram in composition book and infer what the the theme is with text support.
  2. The Golden Lie: Complete margin notes and create plot diagram with a partner.
  3. Kahoot quiz over plot and theme terms/analyze Kahoot data.
  4. MobyMax – Language
Friday
  1. Turn in your PLOT DIAGRAMS!
  2. Kahoot review quiz over story elements from “The Golden Lie”
  3. Checkpoint Quiz
  4. Library
