  1. Brian Williams’ punishment was not too extreme. I believe that it was not quite extreme enough. After all, it is a reporter’s job to share the truth. If someone is caught exaggerating too much, that could be considered as an employee not doing their job, and therefore worthy of job loss. The article says how “NBC News President Deborah Turness confirmed the memo that Williams ‘misrepresented events’ in his original report from Iraq.” I think Brian Williams should not have been suspended. He should’ve been fired.

  2. Brian Williams’ 6 month suspension punishment was not too extreme. I feel that an extreme punishment would have been if he got fired. Everyone makes mistakes and it’s a part of being human. He is entertaining to watch on the news which helps pull in young viewers. As stated by Judy Muller, “He’s very good on these shows. But we ask people to be more than somebody who reads the news or reports it. I think that’s a shame”. Having 6 months to think about his actions will possibly make him a better reporter in the future. He will be more aware of what he is reporting and what he is saying to the viewers.

  3. Brian Williams did not receive an extreme punishment, but will he learn from this mistake? An extreme punishment would to ban him from the show for forever. He’s very entertaining making more people want to watch his show, yet he might not be able to tell the truth in the future. The only reason he’s not being booted is because he pulls in more and more viewers. If he were less popular he would’ve been fired.

  4. Brian William’s punishment of getting suspended from news reporting for 6 months wasn’t too extreme. I think it was pretty reasonable, actually. He told a couple white lies. It’s his job to report the facts, sure, and he lied. Yeah, what he did was wrong. Six months is a great amount of time for a person to reflect on a mistake they made, and learn from it. In the article, Judy Muller says, “He’s very good on these shows. But we ask people to be more than somebody who reads the news or reports it. I think that’s a shame.” She’s right, it’s not his fault viewers want more than just the boring old facts. In this case, I think six months was a very reasonable punishment for lying on the air.

  5. I think that Brian Williams punishment was not too extreme but not extreme enough. It is a reporters job to tell the truth about an event happening and he lied. Williams should get fired from his job not suspended for 6 months. If Brian Williams would not be so popular on late night shows he would be fired, that is probably most causing the reason he only got suspended. Judy Muller says “It is a shame.” she is correct it would be embarrassing if you are a famous reporter and told a exaggerating false statement live. In conclusion Brian Williams punishment wascnot extreme enough, he should of gotten fired from NBC.

  6. I think that it was an unfair punishment because he only told little lies. If it was bigger lies he should be fined but not put in jail because people with minor offenses take up room in jails for people with major offenses . So I think he just be told to stop lieing but really no consiquences unless he accualy broke a law.

  7. Brian William’s punishment of 6 month suspension was not to extreme. Brian William’s suspension was not extreme because he told false remarks. “The article states that in 2003 he said that a helicopter in which he was flying had come under fire ,but he made similar mistakes on talk shows and other events”. ”The article also says in 2005 while covering hurricane Katrina he said he thought he saw a body floating in French Quarter of New Orleans feed off gangs at the hotel were he stayed, but local authorities and news locals disputed that”. Brian William’s punishment was fit for him because he told lies that were not true people make mistakes and over his punishment and think of his actions.

  8. I think Brian William’s punishment was too harsh after all he only told a couple of little lies. He didn’t hurt anyone or damage anyone’s career. The article said in 2005 “that William’s reported in hurricane Katrina that he saw a dead body floating in the water and fending off gangs at his hotel.” This lie did not hurt anyone in fact it probably made people more supportive of the help efforts. This is why Brian William’s punishment was not fair and should have been dialed down.

  9. I believe that Brian Williams punishment was a little bit to extreme. I think tis because they are suspending him for SIX months, that is way too harsh because you can’t go six months without pay or a job. The article states that ” Brian Williams was suspended without pay for embellishing his role in a helicopter incident in Iraq.” The article also states that ” On Feb. 4 Williams made on on-air apology for his false remarks.” I chose the first quote because it states that he did embellish his role, but all reporters embellish their role in some way shape or form. All reporters have or will at some point in their career. I chose the second quote because it states that he apologized, and is owning up to his mistakes unlike other reporters. I think that six months is way to harsh, but I can understand three or four months.

  10. Brian Williams, the anchor of NBC ‘Nightly News” punishment was not too extreme at all. My reason for stating this is because he lied to millions of people. Most people agree on the fact that this is no big deal. In my opinion, I feel as this is completely ridiculous. He flat-out lied about something that had not occurred. He told the false story numerous times. Brian Williams punishment is not as severe as it could have been. He could have lost his job. News reporters should be punished for not being honest. The text states “According to the NBC News executive, Williams agreed to the suspension.” That shows that Williams knows exactly what he did wrong and he is willing to pay the price for it.

  11. I believe Brian Williams punishment is fair. I think it is not extreme because war is something that has made hundreds of thousands of people suffer. Not only that but lying to billions of people from around the globe about an incident in Iraq witch is still making hundreds suffer to this very day. some may believe that we shouldn’t be so hard on him, but I think that is completely stupid. Because he lied to many a people that trusted him with every last bit of themselves he shattered that special bond between people and him.

  12. His consequence was not too severe in my opinion. It would be different if he was not in Iraq ,but with being so he shall deserve such punishment. With the acts of ISIS and other wars and bombings in Iraq we cannot afford such foolery. He shall not be paid is on the little extreme side though this could ruin his entire life for he could not pay his bills,or if he has family he is done for. HE will surely learn his lesson.

  13. Brian Williams 6 month suspension is not too extreme because, he lied on a news report and it was on live TV. With that story of the Iraq helicopter that had been shot at the war veterans had said that had never happened and it wasn’t true at all. Even though he had a 5 year contract with him getting paid 10 million a year. He exaggerated the helicopter incident in Iraq. He should be embarrassed about the exaggerated Iraq incident.

  14. I believe that Brian Williams punishment is severe enough as long as he doesn’t tell over exaggerated stories like that again because the helicopter story affended many war veterans and the Katrina story offended many of the people stuck in the hurricane. And what makes it worse is that he still told the stories years after he reported them.

  15. I honestly think that he should have been fired for good. He lied to people and that’s not his job. If he wants to lie he should have become a liar person. Then he could lie all he want. I think that’s something to big to lie about with what all is going on in the world. Especially there, with all the attacks recently. This man should have been fired on my opinion cause that’s not something to lie about. Especially to the world on TV.

  16. His punishment was extreme enough. He was suspended for six months, and the News executives are keeping tabs on him for false claims that he has since corrected. He did apologize for his actions. He specifically stated on his Wednesday night broadcast, ” I made a mistake in recalling the events of 12 years ago… I want to apologize.”

  17. To me his suspension was not too extreme he lied to the media about his helicopter being on fire.It was his fault for lying and it was his choice to lie so his punishment was suppose to be longer.Like the text says “Brian has jeopardized the trust millions of Americans place in NBC News,” Steve Burke, president of NBCUniversal, said in a statement. If they don’t know they can trust him what is the point of putting him on air again. He could have lost his job from this.the text also says “His actions are inexcusable and this suspension is severe and appropriate.” They are he’s not suppose to lie his job is to tell the truth. He also jeopardized his career, he’s lucky they took him back.
