Agenda: 1/26-1/29

Parent-Teacher Conferences this week! We will be filling in our data sheets on Monday and preparing for our student-led conferences on the 28th and 29th

We will also be honing our writing skills this week as we move through our 2-pt and 4-pt text-based literary responses and into our informative essay practice.

Monday 1/26: Data Day! We will start each period with filling in our data sheets with updated SRI scores and making comparisons. We should create a goal for the 2nd semester based on our SRI comparisons.

  • PSL: Data sheet completion
  • Read excerpt from The Many Rides of Paul Revere: The Boston Tea Party 
  • Construct two text-based literary responses and peer edit
  • Blog post: What is the most impactful signpost thus far with our reading of Forged By Fire?
  • Complete SkyMall assignment-post answers to both questions in comments attached to SkyMall post.

Tuesday 1/27: Finish up out 2-pt essays, continue reading and responding to posted articles, and begin 4-pt essay practice!

  • PSL: Read FBF chapter 5 with signpost journal
  • Continue working on 2-pt essays and turn in
  • Continue blog posts and comments from Monday’s schedule: SkyMall and Suspension vs. Counseling be sure to comment on both, as well as updating your blog with a signpost journal
  • Introduce and explain 4-pt rubric
  • Start constructing 4-pt literary response

Wednesday 1/28: We start student-led PTCs 3:30-7:30; Be sure to show off your new blog! All classes will have a timed 4-pt essay TODAY.

  • PSL: Read FBF chapter 6 with signpost journal
  • Review 4-pt essay rubric and both Paul Revere articles
  • Timed writing: 35 minutes, complete and turn in 4-pt essay
  • When finished, complete blog entries and article comments
  • Quick research activity on Civil War drummer boys (CCA Page 37) focus on primary sources (letters, pictures, first-hand accounts) Save sources in Ipad notes.

Thursday 1/29: PTCs continued 3:30-7:30; we also cover informational writing vocabulary today

  • PSL: Read FBF chapter 7 with signpost journal
  • CCA Book Pages 38-41
  • Informational Essay academic vocabulary-CCA Book page 41 (complete graphic organizer)

  1. Suspension verses Counseling

    I agree with the Los Angeles Board because suspending students doesn’t help them. The real world isn’t like that, and it doesn’t help their education. When a student gets into a fight they aren’t thinking. Usually it’s because there is something wrong in their life or they are having personal problems with someone. If we suspend them, then it is like we are ignoring their problems. When we counsel with the students they get a chance to express their feeling and problems with other students. The student then will feel more safe a protected at school. If the student gets expelled, they will have to transfer schools and meet new people leading to more problems. So in conclusion, it’s best to counsel verses suspension.
